teaching
I am a Research Assistant Professor in First-year Research Immersion program at Binghamton University where I teach undergraduate students how to conduct team-based research in the public health research stream. Student ressearch teams collaborate to analyze mental health from an individual, relational, institutional or structural lens to improve population mental health on campus. Student reseachers learn how to conduct open and reproducible science by programming in R, writing in markdown, and publishing reproducible documents using The Quantitative Playbook for R and The Qualitative Playbook for NVivo. Also, students pick a data analysis methods and specialize in quantitative or qualitative research. As a team, students conduct a mixed-methods for their team research poster.
I am also affiliated faculty with the Division of Public Health at Binghamton University where I teach health communication in the public health minor. To build self-awareness skills and reduce biases among future health communicators, student health communicators complete a reflection on their quantitative belief scores (with normed data by class) and an interactive guide: Know Your Mindsets. In teams, students work collaboratively to create a health communication campaign to improve student wellbeing on campus.
I am passionate about improving academic mentorship and peer mentorship. With FRI collaborators, we developed a Guide for the FRI First Semester course and a Mindsets Guide for the FRI Semester 3 course.
